Seminary teen wins Mississippi Youth of the Year for the Boys & Girls Club. | People

Andria Dawn McMillen won The Mississippi Youth of the Year award for the Boys & Girls Club over the weekend.
Being named Youth of the Year is the highest honor a Boys & Girls Club member can receive. The title recognizes outstanding contributions to a member’s family, school, community and Boys & Girls Club, as well as personal challenges and obstacles overcome. This program was founded over 60 years ago through the generosity of the Reader’s Digest Foundation.
McMillen is the daughter of Curtis & Charlene McMillen. McMillen has been a member of Boys and Girls Club of Covington County for about seven years. She is a senior at Seminary High School, where she is a member of the choir, band, flag core, and a member of various clubs. She is also a member of Girl Scout Troop 6531 of Seminary for the past 13 years. She attends the Dwelling place Church, where she is also a member. She continuously is giving back to her community through volunteer services with Sweetwater ministries thrift store, Habitat for Humanity, also her Self-Destruction Awareness Group for teens. McMillen also volunteers numerous hours at the Seminary Unit of Boys and Girls Club.
McMillen, 17, also won 2 other scholarships, one for $2,000 and another for $500. She will compete in Atlanta for regionials later this year.
