The following is a press release from Forrest General Hospital:
An official Miss America’s Outstanding Teen preliminary pageant billed as “A Covington County Celebration” has given Covington County something to shout about. 14-year old Collins native Brooklyn LeeAnna Mooney was crowned Deep South’s Outstanding Teen in a competition that took place in Seminary.
The daughter of Judge and Mrs. Bobby Mooney of Collins, Brooklyn competed as a classical pianist in the talent portion of the scholarship program. “I am so excited to be going to the state finals in Vicksburg,” exclaimed the Sacred Heart School Freshman. “And to think I won this honor right here in my home county!”
The event was sponsored by The Leaf Foundation and hosted by Covington County Board Members Marie Shoemake (Collins) and Carroll Pierce (Seminary). Current Leaf Foundation title holders handled emcee and entertainment chores and Okatoma Idol Contest Winners Brennan & Pitts of Collins closed the show out as guest entertainers.
First runner-up was vocalist Jordan Parker of Ellisville.
According to Miss Deep South Executive Director Terry Fleming, Mooney will now represent the state at large during the Miss Mississippi’s Outstanding Teen Pageant in Vicksburg this May. For more on Leaf Foundation activities and scholarship opportunities, visit leafrivervalley.com.
